Project Gallery | JNBY Old Factory Dormitory: 6,000 sqm of Flexible Stone Veneer – Restoring Heritage with Modern Integrity

Update: 07 Jul 2026

Project Profile

  • Project Name: JNBY Old Factory Staff Dormitory
  • Completion Date: Q1 2025
  • Product Applied: JUSTONE Flexible Stone (Customized Small Bricks + Customized Granite)
  • Total Area: 6,000 sqm
  • Core Requirements: Historical restoration ("Repairing the old as it was"), resolving substrate issues, tile falling, and leakage.

In Hangzhou, the staff dormitory of the JNBY Old Factory has undergone a silent yet profound transformation. Covering over 6,000 square meters, the facade was completely renovated using JUSTONE’s customized small bricks and granite series flexible stone. This project allowed the historic building to retain its original soul while gaining a new level of safety and durability.

6,000 sqm of Precision: Restoring the Past, Brick by Brick

The core requirement for this renovation was simple yet demanding: "Restoring the old as it was."

Architecture holds memories. The client sought to avoid drastic changes to the exterior, focusing instead on preserving the original aesthetic while resolving critical safety hazards such as hollow substrate, falling tiles, and water leakage.

To achieve this, JUSTONE developed a customized product line. The small brick and granite series were meticulously adjusted in size and color to match the client's specifications. The final result achieved a perfect balance: "A historic appearance from afar, with premium quality upon closer inspection."

  • Sampling Comparison: The top half shows the original weathered wall; the bottom half shows JUSTONE’s customized flexible stone. It preserves the historic look while providing a "new backbone" for the building—innovation hidden within tradition.

Why JUSTONE Stood Out?

This project was not a solo performance. Several competitors were involved in the bidding process, but they ultimately failed to meet the client's high performance and aesthetic expectations.

The reason for JUSTONE’s success was direct: A dual synergy of aesthetics and performance.

  • Aesthetics: The customized texture and color precisely matched the original facade of the historic building.

  • Performance: The lightweight, anti-crack, and waterproof nature of our flexible stone directly addressed the client's biggest pain points—hollow surfaces, falling debris, and water seepage. Combined with our reliable after-sales service, JUSTONE became the trusted choice.

  • Left (Before Renovation): Weathered facade with hollow substrate, falling debris, water seepage, and deep cracks after years of erosion.

  • Right (After Renovation): Covered with JUSTONE customized flexible stone veneer; the original aesthetic is perfectly preserved while all safety hazards are eliminated.

  • Customized Granite Series: A rugged and steady texture that balances the warmth of red bricks, perfectly restoring the building's authentic historic look.

Safety First: Extreme Testing & Substrate Treatment

Renovating historic buildings presents its greatest challenge at the base layer (substrate).

The condition of the old walls in this project was complex. To ensure a permanent bond, we conducted repeated pull-off tests before installation and carefully leveled the old surfaces. Every step was rigorously verified to ensure the bonding strength far exceeded industry standards.

Furthermore, due to the small size of the bricks and the high density of joints, the workload was significantly higher than standard projects, requiring a more intensive and meticulous labor force. Ultimately, the 6,000-square-meter project was delivered on schedule.

From Sampling to Delivery: A Year of Dedication

The project began with initial contact in May 2024, followed by sampling in July. Construction commenced in August, and final completion was achieved in the first quarter of 2025.

Spanning nearly a year from the first sample to final delivery, this may not have been our fastest project, but it is undoubtedly one of our most solid. Every customized brick and every joint treatment is capable of withstanding scrutiny under a magnifying glass.
