Located in Wangjiang Subdistrict, Hangzhou, the Qingtaimen Community Service Center integrates seamlessly into the urban fabric. Dark, medium, and light grey bricks interweave to create a rustic charm reminiscent of traditional blue bricks from afar, while revealing the delicate texture of flexible stone upon closer inspection. This marks JUSTONE’s inaugural project utilizing Travertine Brick Veneer.
Although Qingtaimen is a new construction, its material selection was driven by the need to harmonize with the overall style of the surrounding neighborhood renovation. The Wangjiang area retains a strong atmosphere of old Hangzhou life, characterized by residential buildings from the 80s and 90s, where grey tiles and blue bricks define the regional tone.
The design team’s objective was clear: create a new facility that doesn't feel 'out of place.' It needed to serve modern functions while preserving the warmth of the old district. The 'blue brick effect' became the best language to connect the new and the old. In urban renewal, 'integration' is often rarer and more valuable than 'standing out.'
